frequently asked questions

Ballarat men counselling mental health

Do you have a waitlist?

No. Waitlists can be harmful as they delay someone receiving the support and treatment that they need now. If Courageous Minds does not have capacity to take you on as a client, we will make recommendations for you to consider other qualified clinicians in the area.

I really want to talk to someone, but I don’t know where to start?

This is a common feeling people have when they first arrive and is perfectly normal. The treating clinician will help you work out where to start and guide you through your concerns. Just remember that this doesn't have to happen all in one session, so you can take your time.

What can I expect at my first appointment with you?

First appointments, like first steps can be daunting. Your initial session will include:

  • Additional information gathering and getting to know one another.

  • To discuss the reason for you seeking out our services and how we can help.

  • Establishment of mutual boundaries and expectations for the coming sessions

  • Goal setting and future planning regarding your needs

  • Answering any questions you have about what we do at Courageous Minds

Will Courageous Minds Share my information with others?

All personal information is stored using Halaxy which is a safe and secure Practice Management Software. All clinicians at Courageous Minds are bound by a professional code of conduct and required to always maintain client privacy and confidentiality. Your clinician will always seek consent from you before sharing your information.

There are exceptions when this does not apply, which your treating clinician will discuss with you in more detail at your initial appointment. This pertains to situations when information has been disclosed where the clinician has reason to believe that your safety and/or the safety of others is at risk, or in the case Courageous Minds and the treating clinician have been subpoenaed by court to provide information.

I have been to therapy before, and it didn’t help. How do I know that you can help me this time?

The short answer is you don’t. We can review what happened previously and discuss what didn’t work for you and why. Some people find that the timing hadn’t been right, others find that the intervention style of the clinician or even the personality style didn't fit with them. It's important to find the right person for you. If you've tried before and haven't had a good experience it takes a lot of courage to try again but persistence is the key. Once you find the right clinician it can make a big difference to your experience and addressing your treatment goals.

Can I use a mental health care plan?

Yes, Medicare rebated Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP) are accepted: you will need to provide paperwork of your MHCP prior to your appointment for the rebate to be claimed which we can do for you onsite on the day of your appointment.

Are you registered with NDIS?

Courageous Minds is currently in the process of obtaining registration with NDIS. As such we are currently not an NDIS registered provider – we will not be able to see NDIA-managed/portal managed participants at this time.
